Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to identify "the role of socio-cultural capital on the pattern of consumption (culture) of Teachers in Tehran". The theoretical framework derived from the theories of Veblen, Donelai, and Bourdieu explains the pattern of consumption among teachers and their social capital. The research method has been quantitative and survey. The statistical population includes all teachers in Tehran city with a sample of 35797 people (80% female and 20% male) with 4243 government and non-governmental educational units selected by cluster sampling method. The findings of this study showed that social capital had the highest impact on the pattern of consumption of teachers based on the Veblen model. Also, the results indicate that the variables of cultural-educational capital, social and underlying factors are simultaneously approximately 0.53 with consumption patterns (Veblen). In this study, the correction coefficient is calculated to be 263/0, that is, about 27% of the consumption pattern (Veblen) is explained by the independent variables studied, and the remaining 20% are due to factors outside our observation. In sum, research findings emphasize the impact of socio-cultural capital as an independent variable on the pattern of consumption of teachers as a dependent variable.
